- 45,000 square miles of forest are lost across the world each year (roughly the same sized area as Ireland)
- 60% of the world's major rivers have been dammed or diverted
- 34%: the amount by which the world's population has grown in the last 20 years
- 75,000 people a year are killed by natural disasters and more than 200 million are affected
- 50%: The percentage by which populations of fresh fish have declined in 20 years
- 20%: The amount by which energy requirements of developed countries such as the United States have increased in the period
- In a democratic world, it is everybodys responsibility to act. Contact your MP and demand they support climate change legislation. Join campaigns to show your support and get involved in action - I Count, Greenpeace's 7 Step Campaign, join the National Day Of Action on December 8th and take part in regular actions. And of course, there's plenty you can do at home and at work to fight climate change (we counted 155!)
